some of the conditions of my standing orders are defective
and that as the Peak district is a reserved district for the
european gentlemen, and to keep it clean I devoted whole of
my time, as first I have to supervise the work of the conser-
vancy coolies, then of the rubbish cooliee, and than the
scavenging of the roads &c., in this long steep and shelterless
district, where to complete my work I have suffered greatly
during the rough weather &c. to do which work some of the
forsman have been unable.
and
I have worked for 5 years in the Hongkong Police Force for
5 years in the private employment and am in possɗasion of good
testimonials from Captain Superintendent and some of the Police
Inspector under whom I worked, and from all the private
employers, and have served for about 6 years in your hospitable
department, and during last 6 years no complain of absence
from duty &c. has been made against me.
Therefore I most humbly and respectfully beg to ask your kind-
ness as to remove and set aside from your blessed mind the
effects of a recent complain against me for money lending, for
which I pleaded ignorant of Sanitary department laws regarding
money lending, and take in to consideration my long service
in this colony as 5 years in the Hongkong Police Force, 5
years private employment and last 6 years in the Sanitary
department, and that as at my present post I am doing as much
do work as 3 foremen could, in this hilly district the condition
of which is well known to you
Trusting Sir, that you will give your favour consideration
my this last appeal.

I remain
Sir
Your most obedient servant
Bagwan Singh
Peak Watchman.
